Need for Intervention
Going straight for an elective c section would have made my birth better. That way I would have avoided the induction, the drip, the epidural, the FBS x 2, the failed forceps and then the emergency section whilst my daughter had a prolonged bradycardia
What made me deal with it better was being a medic because I knew that lots of other women have similar experiences.
To clarify – I'm not being flippant by saying having an elective c section would have made my brth better. I was just reflecting on the pressure for women to have ‘natural’ births – I was absolutely determined to have one and was gutted that I couldn’t. But until you labour you just don’t know how it’s going to go. In terms of intra-partum care I also didn’t have a midwife with me continuinously during the labour but I don’t think that affected the outcome…..The expectation that every woman can have a normal birth sets women up to feel rubbish post natally if she can’t.
